It was a fun time at the drag strip. Having never shot a drag race before I wasn’t sure what I was in for but thanks to the nice people at the track I enjoyed the time there and managed to get a few good photos. Click here for the full gallery

I just wish I had an old Impala and 25 grand sitting around.

We’ve put some miles on our GEM eL. It serves its purpose but we still miss our John Deere Gator and its convenience of gas fill ups and shorter wheelbase. The GEM is nice with the hard doors and heater in the winter. In the summer you can pull down the windows to try and stay cool. The Gator is much more fun to drive but we really don’t need the capability of going off-road and the GEM being electric means we are burning up gas. Since we drive the vehicle around campus on the roads the GEM is a much better vehicle for this as it has much better acceleration, a higher top speed and pulls the hills easier than the Gator. With about a 40 mile range we make sure to have it plugged in when not in use and that range drops by about 10 miles during the winter due the fact we are running the heater. If the top speed of the GEM was about 40-45 mph and it had a range closer to 100 miles I think it would make a good vehicle to run back and forth to work and the grocery store. Below is a video of a run from 0-27 mph.
Due to the cold conditions I didn’t stay long. From the reports I heard that everyone had a good time. This was the last race at the Auto Auction site and they made good use of the space. I managed to get photos of the first run group but left before the second started. If you were in the second group I’m sorry I didn’t get any photos. Photos are up and available by clicking here or like always you can click the link on the left to view all my photo galleries including past races.
The day started off cold and warmed up enough to be nice. We had some good close racing and again Scotty came up and beat his parents in their car. I think they are going to make him drive his own from now on. We had the Factory Five racers show up again which is always nice to watch those cars as the drivers feather the throttle around the course. I don’t know if it was the cold, the extra hour of sleep or just the fact that Jeff was in an extra goofy mood yesterday but the photo of

him shows that the autocrosses in Chattanooga are always fun. Photos are uploaded and available here. If you want to see past autocross photos or other photos I’ve taken follow the link on the left to get a listing of all my galleries.
Here is a video where one of the racers brought two cars out. He put together the in car video from each run. One is a 1989 Honda Civic Si the other is 2005 Honda S2000.

This is a great project and I wouldn’t mind taking it for a spin.
